Introduction

Over the course of the three lessons in the Health Sleuth course, we will look at three different approaches to searching for information regarding health issues. We will look at sites and discuss how to verify information. In this lesson, we will begin with a search for Health Care Services.

Finding Health Services

While Google or other search engines are valuable tools in researching some kinds of information, when it comes to health issues, it is best to use reputable sites. That way you know that the information you are being given is from a reliable source.

How to find reliable sites:

Decide which site you'd like to use. In this case we will explore http://www.health.state.ny.us/ You will notice menus on the left and on the right. On the right hand side, click on the blue letters that say Hospitals, Nursing Homes and other Health Care Facilities.

You will find a menu to select from. Click on Adult Care Facilities.

You will then see a list of hyperlinks that will give you more information. We will click on the map of Clinton County.

You will then get a list of Adult Care Facilities available in Clinton County, with contact information and basic facts about each one.
